Two opportunities to draw together on Zoom

In the spirit of 2020 it was a bit challenging like learning to play a of set drums right before a big gig but so rewarding to bang around and keep the beat even if I bungled a few cues.

Happy to report I am feeling ready for future remote creative gatherings after spending the weekend with the Dance New England zooming in community.

Lucky for you I am eager to share more time drawing and perfect my technical chops. I have some juicy content I want to workshop. If you are curious, and want to draw together for an hour or two, I have two free classes this week.

Personal Cartography, A drawing workshop Saturday at 3:30 pm (Eastern Standard Time)

Dance New England’s Virtual Dance Camp is Thursday August 13 at 6:30pm – Sunday August 16 at 6pm on Zoom.

There is a great lineup of virtual classes (biodanza, tantra, personal growth), boogies with our favorite DJs, ecstatic dance, morning yoga, storytelling, live music, family groups, drum and dance, and more.

So great we can gather together once again. It is so rewarding to be in community to visit virtually and create something new together.

Personal Cartography workshop is an expressive drawing journey designed to center and connect with self and others. All you need is a pencil, blank paper and a little free time to join in the fun. I hope to see you soon.

Saturday 8/15 3:30 pm EST

The schedule, more info, and registration is here; the facebook event is here. (Note: extensive kids 0-12 program schedule to be announced by August 6th)

Freedom

Thanks for all of your support, dear friends. After three years of working on this project I have published my second book.

Drawing is a passion. Navigating how to be of use to myself and other pencil lovers through the many digital means beyond publishing a paperback book is my new obsession.

Sewing goes high tech

This week a laser cutter was used to cut ties for 300 PPE isolation gowns. Thanks to Sewing4good.org for keeping the domestic production of protective clothing for hospital workers flowing.

Rachel Sews PPE

Well like many people I have been gardening and sewing this spring. Both activities have gotten big and are keeping me sane.

The sewing started with masks for front line workers and friends. Now it has grown to over 200 produced since mid March. Gradually I saw a need to do even more, so I am committed to sewing isolation gowns for healthcare workers with Sewing4good.org

I am into my fourth week of the project and have started a campaign to raise money to support my workroom.

Never before have I done a campaign like this but I could use some support so that I can continue to sew for health care workers. Who knew home sewing could be so vital to the national recovery?

Your contribution of five dollars would buy me a new serger cone of thread or package of 10 machine needles. Move the decimal point over one place and Kermit and I will be sending you a cloth mask in the color of your choice as a thank you.

Drawing Practice

In this unprecedented spring many of us find ourselves sharing, from home in seclusion. Perhaps in this suspended time you are more open to try new things or pick up something you used to enjoy. If you know me, maybe you have noticed that I like to draw. I have been writing a book sharing my ideas on the topic for while now. It is soon to be released in paperback.

FREE the content is my new idea. So on this website and on Facebook I will be sharing some drawing lessons for at least 10 weeks. If you like what you see I will soon have the link up to purchase your very own copy and have it shipped to you to support deepening of your drawing practice.

The Philips Collection grows on

Raychil Design is proud to offer laser cut plans that you can use to make your own storage crates, pigeon hole wall mounted boxes and other laser cut wood shapes for organizing your home or business.

In the past we have sold and will still offer some smaller ready made designs, such as in and out boxes and pencil boxes. Using high quality quarter inch plywood.

Custom shapes and sizes of boxes will now be available as well.  We offer you the opportunity to cut and fabricate your own storage solutions even if you do not know how to design you can still jump in and D.I.Y.

Act now and download a free pattern for a Chopsticks box up on Thingiverse to try.

Do you have access to a laser cutter, or there is one at school? If not you can contract out the service in your community and save on the shipping and have designs fabricated locally.

Monkey around with wood

This month I have installed a new art show for inspiring creative reuse of wood samples and scrap. It was initiated by FabMo the amazing clearing house of up cycled materials to bridge the gap between Christmas and valentines displays. Many thanks go to my partner John Montbriand for his expert etching skills also featured in this exhibition.
